Music Minor (18 Credits)

TOTAL CREDITS: 18; ONLY GRADES OF ‘C’ OR BETTER WILL COUNT TOWARD THE MINORThe requirements below are a reflection of the most recent degree requirements for the Minor in Music. Please refer to your catalog year for the most accurate degree requirements.

 

Provides theoretical and experiential opportunities which emphasize the history, theory, performance and criticism of music and musicians from both Western and non-Western traditions. Exposes students to the diversity of styles, eras, and practices of the global society and make connections with other areas of the arts, culture, and society.

Required Courses

  • MUS 205   Theory of Music I (3 credits) [prerequisite: MUS 200 Offered every fall]
  • MUS 215   Sight Singing Ear Training Lab I (1 credit) [corequisite: MUS 205]

Choose one: 

  • MUS 235   History of European Art Music I: Antiquity to 1750 (3 credits, offered fall semester) [prerequisite: MUS 100 (T1AC) or MUS 120 (T1H) Offered every semester or MUS 200 Offered every fall]
  • MUS 236   History of European Art Music II: 1750 to Present (3 credits, offered spring semester) [prerequisite: MUS 100 (T1AC) or MUS 120 (T1H) Offered every semester or MUS 200 Offered every fall]
  • MUS 335   Introduction to Ethnomusicology (3 credits, offered fall semester) [prerequisite: MUS 130 (T1AC) Offered every semester]

Choose two credits:

  • MUS 103   Chorus  (1 credit)
  • MUS 107   Concert Band (1 credit)

Minor Electives

Choose nine credits in MUS courses at the 200-level or higher; six credits must be at the 300-level or higher.
