Get involved and have fun!

Welcome back to another fun semester of recreation! Are you looking to get started on your fitness goals? Or are you looking to stay in shape? Our fitness classes are designed for all fitness levels and with no prior experience necessary. Eastern offers recreational programming ranging from Zumba to interval training. Our goal is to create a fun and encouraging environment through fitness for our Eastern community.

Students who want to work out on their own also have access to the Cardio Room and Weight Room in the Sports Center, as well as the Fitness Center in the Student Center.

    Professor Kelly Madenjian will be returning to teach a class that has three separate sections. Add some variety to your workouts with Salsa Fit. This will be a tremendous way to start your Monday afternoons off. All abilities are welcome, and you will be so glad you made it out to this fun and exciting class!

    Professor Kelly Madenjian will be returning to teach a class that has three separate sections. To add some variety to your workouts, the combination of 20 minutes of strength, 20 minutes of core, and 20 minutes of stretching will add plenty of balance to your workout. All abilities are welcome, and you will be so glad you made it out to this ‘three-in-one’ class.

    All levels of fitness are welcomed and encouraged. No prior experience is required. Bring a towel and water bottle. A valid Eastern ID is required upon entrance.

    Join Amanda Eichner in this yoga class that will have you feeling strong throughout the semester.

    All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged. Bring a yoga mat, a water bottle and wear workout clothes. A valid Eastern ID is required upon entrance.

    Join Linda Sanford for a change of tempo from some of our other classes, have fun while working out with our Cardio kickboxing class! An in-person class, you can destress by attending this class. Use plenty of explosive movements to work up a sweat and put some excitement in your workout!

    Professor Linda Sanford will be teaching this high intensity interval training class will be a great workout for anyone looking to build up their strength and power. All levels of fitness are invited, and you will see many positive results coming from a class like this.

    Step aerobics is a cardiovascular exercise that is performed by stepping onto and off of an elevated platform while doing upper body movements. The moves target your legs, upper body, and core, building strength and flexibility. Step aerobics also improves your balance, coordination, and agility. Also known as step training, the choreographed moves are done as a beginner to moderate intensity cardiovascular workout. It improves overall fitness by building strength, reducing fat, and boosting your cardiovascular health. It burns calories, making it an ideal way to maintain your target body weight. Professor Linda Sanford will be teaching this class.

    New Classes Coming Soon!

    Zumba is a fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval and resistance training — alternating fast and slow rhythms.

    Instructor: Coach Liz returns again after being a crowd favorite from last semester. Any and all levels are welcome to join. This will be a class that gets you wanting to move around and work up a sweat while enjoying upbeat, vibrant music. Anyone interested in stepping outside of their comfort zone, enjoys music, and wants to move around to a great beat should look towards attending this class. Taking place on Wednesdays in April and May! Will be labeled as a ‘cant-miss’ recreation class for anyone with a passion for movement and dance. This will be a collaboration class with the Club Zumba program!

    New Classes Coming Soon!

    Barre class is a rigorous workout that blends elements from different exercise styles including ballet basic movements, Pilates, yoga and resistance training. Focusing on posture, alignment, agility, and core strengthening. It focuses on low-impact, high-intensity movements, high reps of small range movements designed to strengthen your body in ways that few other workouts can. Class is designed for all fitness levels, from beginners to advanced, something for everyone.

    All levels of fitness are welcomed and encouraged. No prior experience is required. Fitness classes are free for all Eastern students, faculty and staff. A valid Eastern ID is required upon entrance.

    Instructor
    : Professor Sanford will be teaching her fun and exciting Barre class that had a great turnout during last semester. Open to all fitness levels, this class brings the heat and is a fun way to get active while enjoying your personal workout on Tuesday nights to finish off the semester.

    This is an “no experience needed” self-defense class.

    We will cover the basics of:

    1. situational awareness
    2. eliminating immediate threats
    3. harm prevention techniques

      No special equipment or protective gear is needed.
      Exercise attire recommended.
      Your safety in ensured.
      We respect all boundaries set by you.
      This class is suited for every level of fitness- even “Covid Couch” level of fitness

    Yoga is the Path To a Wellness Living Program - Presented by Student Activities and Intramurals & Recreation

    Instructor: Tamsy is a Bachelor of Arts Graduate of Skidmore College with a Major in Philosophy and Asian Studies. She is an internationally certified 500-hour Yoga Alliance Educator, 500-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher, 500-hour Baptiste Power Yoga Institute instructor. She founded High Street Yoga in 2009.

    All levels of fitness are welcomed and encouraged. No prior experience is required. Handheld weights and a yoga mat are recommended but not required. Fitness classes are free for all Eastern students, faculty, and staff. 

    Instructor: Coach Erica is originally from South Windsor, CT where she graduated from the University of Connecticut. Erica is a certified Barre instructor, professional dancer, and the founder/creative director of Higher Ground Core a fitness studio located in South Windsor, CT. Teaching fitness classes is easy for Coach Erica and her goal is to make sure you feel comfortable while achieving your fitness goals.

    New Classes Coming Soon!

    Walk/Run club is a program designed to assist our Eastern community in training for Connecticut’s Colligate Virtual 5k in October. Coach Danielle will guide you in your approach to running and assist you in achieving your personal goal. This is a fun environment that will be geared towards walkers, joggers, runners or sprinters. Those who would like to walk/run and wish to not participate in our virtual 5k are also welcomed!

    All levels of fitness are welcomed and encouraged. No prior experience is required. Bring a towel and water bottle. Fitness classes are free for all Eastern students, faculty and staff. A valid Eastern ID is required upon entrance.

    Instructor: Coach Danielle is currently the volunteer cross country coach for Eastern. Her passion for running began when she joined her middle school cross country team. Danielle continued her passion while running as a collegiate student-athlete at Berry College. During her time at Berry College she was a competitive athlete placing in the top 3 for three consecutive years in the SAA Conference Championship. In addition, she was a record holder for the program and qualified for the NCAA Championship in 2016. After graduating college, she worked as an assistant cross-country coach at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School. Currently, Coach Danielle is working towards her Masters in Coaching from Adams State University.
